That's a brown paper grocery bag that I was writing my weekly calendar on. What do you mean you don't write your calendar on grocery bags? It started out as a doodle of me with pecs, but quickly evolved into something more literary.

I was feeling strong the other day and I wanted to represent that in my next work, but even as I did so, I realized I couldn't depict writing as a conquest. For me, it's the goofy, indirect process shown above. So I keep telling myself, "Yo, yo, raise the roof author man, and maybe slap a smile on that gloomy face. You're moving forward one page at a time."
